After earning splits in each of the first two weeks, the Yard Goats got above the mendoza line by getting a much earned sweep on Sunday.

Game 1 vs Greenberg's Knights - Spirit Park - Field 3

Both teams came out the gate hot. The Knights put up 3 in the top of the 1st. But the Goats would answer with 4 in the bottom half capped off by a 2 run triple by Daryl  Drake. The Knights would respond with 4 more in the 2nd to take an early 3 run lead. But a pitching change by the Goats would spark them the rest of the day. POW Roy White came in and shut down the Knights offense to only 1 run the last 5 innings. Some small ball scored 2 for the Goats in the 3rd. the 4th and 5th were scoreless for both sides. The Knights took a 8-6 lead to the bottom of the 6th. Singles from Matt Myers and Tyler Samsel set the table for an RBI double from Tony Martin. Ari Loiben hit a sac fly to tie the game and Daryl Drake had a huge 2 out RBI single to give the Goats their first lead since the 1st inning. The Goats defense was lock down in the 7th as they took home a 9-8 win. Great pitching from Roy, great defense from Tony Martin and David Greer in the outfield, and timely hitting all contributed to the win.

Game 2 @Niswonger's Lugnuts - Spirit Park - Field 3

This was a tight game early as both teams were coming off wins. The Yard Goats got 2 in the first off of RBI hits from Ari Loiben and Nick Croce. But the Lugnuts answered with 3 of their own. The Goats would get 3 more in the 2nd thanks to RBI hits from Tyler Samsel, Loiben and Daryl Drake. But the pitching and defense of the Yard Goats were stifling, as the explosive Lugnuts offense alternated 1 and 0 runs each inning after the first. The Goats offense kept getting stronger as the game went on scoring 2 in the 3rd, 4 in the 4th, 7 in the 5th and 4 more in the 6th. Great hitting up and down the lineup scoring 22 runs on 32 hits. Yard Goats win 22-6.
