RANGERS at PIRATES

It was a nice breezy Sunday morning, when the quiet stillness was broken by the crack of a softball bat...The game between the Pirates and the Rangers would be a back and forth pitchers duel with some CRAZY strike zone action... as both Theile and Kilburn worked on fastballs and cutters painting the lower knees of most players ...because apparently this was the new ASA strike zone.  Hits from Glosier, Bone and Kilburn would start the Rangers off right.  A Kravitz SAC would score Glosier and Osgood would drive in 2 more with a single.  Liam Kilburn would move Osgood on a fly ball and sub Tyson Smith (filling in for the missing Ryan Richardson) would blast a double in the gap to score Osgood. Feeling good the Rangers would then knock out the top of the order for the Pirates and go into the second inning, where Garreth Johnson would reach on a single, and score on a Bone home run.  Another Single by Kilburn ... but that was all the offense we could muster.  The Pirates would keep pounding the ball, and capitalizing on a Bomb from Theile to tie things up, then a run here, a run there...and we come to the top of the 5th... down 9-6.  With 2 outs the Johnsons (Garreth and Steve) would both reach bases.  Glosier would take the walk to set up the bases loaded for Bone. Two outs...bases loaded down by 3... but it was not to be.  Final score Ranger 6, Pirates 9.

LUGNUTS at RANGERS

Grumpy and disheartened by a close loss... the Rangers trudged next door to field 1 and took the field as the Home team against the Lugs.  It was heating up and really humid now...as the game wore on the humidity increased and the heat continued it's steady climb.  Good pitching kept the Lugnuts to only a run in the first...except that we only matched them with 1.  Top of 2, 1 to 1...the Rangers would turn their order over ...but alas no runs.  The next inning the Lugs put up a few..and we came in and a homerun by Bone, single by Kilburn, single by Kravitz and Osgood would set up Liam Kilburn for 2 run double in the gap.  Osgood would score on a SAC from Tim Crites, Liam would advance and score on a Fielders Choice by  Garreth Johnson.  Stevie Johnson would turn the order with a single, but alas would be left stranded at first.  The score was tight Lugnuts 7, Rangers 6 coming into the bottom of the 4th.  A leadoff double by Kilburn would set the stage for the tie, as Osgood would also double, scoring Kilburn from 2nd and trading places.  The 5th would start a rally by the Lugnuts which would see them pull out to an 11-7 lead.  Tyson Smith would hit a triple to the right side...but wait... it was not to be, Tyson was called out for missing second base. Crites would walk, so would Stevie Johnson. Glosier would single, and Dustin Bone would smash another lazer at John "the glove" Simonson ... who was doing his best impression of a Dyson vacuum and sucking up EVERYTHING that was hit to him.  Great pitching would get the top of the Lugnuts order out... bringing up the middle of the Rangers with the score still 11-7.  A Smash single from Kilburn would set the tone.  Followed by 4 consecutive walks to score Kilburn and keep the bases loaded. A hard single from Garreth would tighten the score to 11-10...with Liam Kilburn poised at third to be the winning run.  A middle shot by Stevie Johnson, scooped up, out at 2nd...bad throw...SAFE at first...Run counts! Ballgame! Rangers 12, Lugnuts 11.

Brian Osgood 2-3 with a Walk and Double
