Management made a HUGE late season deadline move acquiring a kid named Andy Goodman for the stretch run.  This means we had a full squad for the first time in a long time.  That lasted one game until we lost one who had to leave early.  We didn't flinch.

Game 1 vs Rangers

The first place Rangers came in to today riding high, but suffered a game 1 loss to the Muckdogs.  We wanted to jump on them early to keep them down but Plan A flamed out after onlt mustering 2 runs in the first at bat.  The defense and pitching held tight on a field with a fierce wind blowing out.  After 4 innings we were all knotted up at 8 then were blanked in the top of the 5th giving them an opening.  They hammered out 4 runs forcing us to mount a rally in the final inning.  With the bottom two hitters in the order due up to start, we knew we had them right where we wanted.  Travis Olander and Lewis Zwick led off with back to back singles setting the table for the top.  Kelly Alexander cleared the bases with a 3 run bomb to get us to within one.  A single and back to back homers by Taylor Abrego and Ariel Rodriguez gave us the cushion we needed.  Kevin Blake capped the scoring with an RBI insurance.  The defense finished the rally by holding them scoreless in the bottom of the inning to earn the 15-12 victory.

Game 2 vs Cubs

On the same field at 8 am, the Cubbies scored something like 40 runs so this would be a challenge and we found ourselves in a big hole early on.  Down 8-1 after two innings, it was looking bleak with Lee McDonald dialed in on the mound for the Cubs.  RBI's by Joe Exotic and POW candidate Jeff Radanof got us right back in with a 4 spot.  They would answer with 1, but we would respond with another 4 spot in similar fashion to game one.  Ozzie Zurita and Olander started with back to back hits at the bottom and Kelly Alexander cleaned it up with another 3 run bomb.  The captain followed that with a solo job to tie it at 9.  We held them to nothing in the bottom of the 4th setting it up for a huge inning.  In the top of the 5th, we sent everyone to the plate.  Huge hits all through the lineup, but the knockout blow came on a 2 out Grand Slam from Carlos Moran.  The Cubs battled back for a few but we were able to close it out for a huge 18-13 win and a sweep on the day.

POW: Jeff Radanof 6 for 7, 2B, 3 RBI

Kevin Blake 5 for 6, 2 RBI

Carlos Moran 4 for 6 , Grand Slam HR to seal game 2, 2 BB

Kelly Alexander 4 for 7, 2 HR, 6 RBI and great pitching on a tough field with wind blowing out.

Travis Olander 4 for 5, RBI

Ariel Rodriguez 4 for 8, 2 HR, 5 RBI

Taylor Abrego 3 for 4, 2 HR, 4 RBI
