The Mariners came in riding high on a 5 game win streak. In a rematch of opening day, the Brewers were up first. The Brewers scored 5 in the bottom of the first and maintained a lead after 5 of 7-3. In the sixth, Tim Jamieson hit an inside the parker to score two. When the Brewers responded with two on a Prim dinger, the Mariners were down to their final chance. A John Miller triple scored one and a Tommy Baer single scored another but the Mariner win streak crumbled with a 9-7 loss.

The task got tougher with the Astros sporting a 7 game win streak up next. Matt Hyson led off with a Justin Reed assisted home run. The Mariners squeaked out one more to close the first inning gap to 3-2. The Mariners exploded in the next inning. After the bottom of the order loaded the bases, Matt Hyson and Tim Jamieson both singled home runs leaving them loaded for Ryan Driggers. You guessed it, Gone! For a grand slam, and an 8-4 Mariner lead after two. The Astros scored 3 more in the third to pull within 8-7. A pitchers duel then set in disturbed only by solo blasts from Hyson and Driggers. So, entering the seventh, the Mariners held a 10-7 lead. The Astros have a recent history of dramatic come from behind victories. After winning game 1 with a grand slam, they scored 5 in the seventh to defeat the Mariners 12-10.

The newly married Matt Hyson was our IPOW with 4-5, 2 home runs, SF, 4 runs and 4 RBI’s. Honorable mention to Dustin Madlock who was a sterling 4-5. Ryan Driggers was 4-6 with two dingers to up his league leading total to 28 through 24 games. Tim Jamieson went 4-6 showing off his wheels with an inside the park homer. The double defeat leaves the Mariners in a tie for third still only one game out of first.
