Game 1

SC – 10

BBR - 9

If you don’t like defensive softball then the Storm Chasers games are not for you, but if you like close games where the defense pulls it out in the end maybe they are. As usual the Storm Chasers get out of the gate as the Visitor by putting up a 3 spot in the top of the 1st with a Brum 2 run HR and a Croce Sac Fly. However, the good guys decided to get all of the errors out of their system in the bottom of the first inning with a wet field creating a slippery ball problem. However, the Storm Chasers put up another 2 in the top of the 2nd with scores from Peasey and Brum while finding their D and holding the Blue Rocks to 0 in the bottom of the inning.

This battle went to the 4th still 6-5 after neither team scored in the 3rd. The Storm Chasers obviously found a big one a brewing as they put up 5 in the top of the 4th when the bottom of the lineup rolled it over to the top with hits from Austin Montgomery and a big RF burning double by Tony Lowery setting the table for a walk by Peasey, a base clearing double by Brum and a 2 run Jack by Luke Morgan. That was the last the Storm Chaser’s would score in this 6-inning affair and it was just enough as the good guys held on for a 1 run win against a great effort by the Blue Rocks!

Brum 4-4 with a HR, 2 Doubles, 1 Single and 5 RBI

Luke 3-4 with 1 Single, 1 Double, 1 HR and 4 RBI

Austin 2-3 with a lockdown RF making plays all day including a great catch in the 1st to stop a huge inning

Game 2

SC – 9

DDR – 7

The Storm Chasers decided they liked the idea of getting ahead early and hanging on tight for another close victory in the end. After putting up 4 in the bottom of the first and 4 in the bottom of the second with to top and the middle of the lineup accounting for all 8 runs including Home Runs by Peasey and Hyson (though done in very different styles). The Chasers would score 1 more run over the last 3 innings but again hold on with solid defense to pull out 2 nail biters for a much needed sweep!

Offensive highlights though few this game, the following stand out:

Brum – 1-1 with 2 walks to go perfect for the day

Matt Hyson continued his hot day going 3-3 with a big HR and 3 RBI

Nick Croce with a solid game going 2-2 with 2 RBI and a solid game a First Base

Impact Players of the Week:

Matt Brumley – 5-5 2 Doubles, 1 HR, 2 BB and 5 RBI with his lock down 3rd base as usual

Nick Croce – 2-4 with a SAC and 3 RBI

Austin Montgomery – 2-5 locking down RF all day making game saving plays
