Dragons Run Out of Fire - Padres & Chasers Packing Brooms

The top teams from each division squared off looking to build momentum with division games just one week away.

After the first inning, the score was tied at 1 apiece and it looked as though the two 5-1 teams were in for an epic battle…

Then came the top of the 2nd.  What was odd was that the bottom of Prim’s Padres batting order; Omar Gonzalez, Robert Santiago, Brian Alvara and captain Brooke Prim were seemingly replaced by the ghosts of Padres past.  Suddenly, as the Dragons peered into the Padres dugout, the 9-12 hitters were lined up.  There stood Tony Gwynn, Fernando Tatis Jr., Dave Winfield and Benito Santiago.  Those four combined with the rest of the Padres posted a 10-spot in the 2nd, slaying the Dragons before they had their second cup of coffee.

The Dragons never say die attitude overtook their dugout, but the Prims conjured up yet more Padre magic.  Lo and behold, the Commish was replaced on the bump by Jake Peavy.  Peavy held the mighty Dragons lineup to 6 runs on a total of 9 hits, while the Padres bottom four combined for an 8/10 day!

The Dragons were highlighted by an Adwild Perez inside the park HR along with an Adwild Perez header to Ari Loiben for a nifty out.

Looking to rebound from a game 1 beatdown, the Dragons were visitors to Pease’s Storm Chasers.  The Dragons scored 1 in the top of the 1st off a Tim Kaminski double that scored Ari Loiben.

The Dragons seemed to lose their mojo again, giving up 4 runs in both the 1st and 2nd innings.  As has happened in so many games this season, the Dragons stormed back, out-scoring the Chasers 5-1 in the middle innings.  The 4th inning was highlighted by a Sheldon Fulton single, followed by a Zak Edgerton single, then an RBI double by John Unell.  Gary Frank and Ray Darragh also tacked on RBIs.

With Pease’s bunch up 9-6, neither team scored in the 6th, leaving the Dragons needing a big T7.  Adwild Perez hit his 2nd inside the park HR of the day, but other than that, the Dragons went down easy.

Despite the sweep, the Dragons left with their heads held high.  With divisional play beginning, watch out as this fiery bunch is ready to rebound!
