The Monarchs split two one-run games, edging the Empire 66ers 11-10 before falling to the Cannon Ballers 9-8.

Game 1 featured five lead changes, starting with Andy Willams knocking in Darius Wu and Brian Allsbrook.  Irwin Kaufman and Brian Allsbrook drove in runs to extend the Monarchs' lead to 4-1 after 3, but Heath Jones tied it up in the fourth and then Richard Smith and Tim Crites burned Coach Garber's strategy to give the 66ers a 6-4 lead. Adam Schor walked with one out in the fifth and then smartly beat Cody Strull's throw to second on Lance Lassen's deep infield single.  After Darius Wu doubled in Schor, Brian Allsbrook singled in Lassen and Wu, to put the Monarchs back on top - briefly.  Turbo's team tallied two in each of the last two innings to go up 10-7 heading to the bottom of the seventh.  After Kaufman and Schor got on, Lassen hit a three-run jimmy jack to tie the game, setting the stage for Brian Allsbrook to put the game-winner just over the centerfield fence to walk it off!

See the Cannon Ballers' write-up if you want to read about their game 2 heroics.  Monarchs' stars incuded Darius Wu (3-3 with a homer), and Blake Allsbrook, John Burke, and Larry Goldstein (all on twice in three plate appearances).  Goldstein and Tim Barnes had early RBIs to turn the lineup over, but the Monarchs could not put Dyer's boys away.

After getting over the surprise of seeing his son show up to play against him, old man Brian Strull went 5 for 6.  If he keeps that up, the Monarchs should play their way into the playoff hunt in the second half!
