The Flying Squirrels are picking up momentum as the season starts to wind down. Game 1 was against Sardi’s Tiburones. Lead off solo shots from Ben Collincini and Tim Jamieson started the Squirrels on the way to an opening 3 spot. The lead held up through 6 innings with the Squirrels holding a tenuous 7-6 lead heading to the final stanza. Singles from Tommy Baer, Dustin Madlock and Ming Tsai netted 1, a Collincini single loaded them and BOOM! Tim Jamieson unloaded a grand slam to send the Squirrels on to a 12-6 victory and a two-game winning streak.

The first place Prim’s Padres were next. The Padres flexed their power early commanding a 10-1 lead after 2. Jamieson’s third home run of the day was the only offense for the Squirrels. The Padres built their lead to 13-3 as we headed to the bottom of the last inning. The Squirrels showed some great spirit. A 2 run homer by Ben Collincini started the scoring and RBI hits by Randy Ransom, Dustin Bone and Jason Chapman narrowed the final margin to 13-10 in favor of the Padres.

The split on Sunday was the best showing of the season for the Squirrels but leaves them with a long road to the playoffs over the final four games. Tim Jamieson led the way Sunday going 5-6 with a walk, double, and 3 home runs. Tim also scored 5 runs and had 7 RBI’s. Ben Collincini had a breakout weekend with 5-7 and 2 home runs. Dustin Bone was also 5-7.
