Padres SWEEP and secure a playoff spot!

Game 1 vs Rubber Ducks

After a hard fought battle into the wind last week, the weather couldn’t be better week 7. The Padres might have started the day a little cold but as the weather warmed up so did the offense. A game that was back in forth at first scoring 4 runs in the 2nd coming from singles by Hap Burden “Mr. Clean” Mike Bourque, Robert Santiago, Brooke Prim and Scott Lawrence. The Padres then sprinkled in another 5 runs in the 3rd and 4th inning. Backed by continued stellar defense by the entire team the Padres kept pushing the lead. With time running down and Padres home team the Rubber Ducks tried their best to push for another inning. The bottom of the order and PJ had another idea to close the door. With one out the Rubber Ducks put Robert Santiago on to create the force play and try to get out of inning with a double play. Brooke Prim stepped up to the challenge and hit a hard ground ball to 2nd but hustling hard to 2nd base was Robert who made it safe. Now runners at 1st and 2nd one out and PJ up to bat. Instead of watching pitches to kill the clock he made up his mind if Jason throws a cookie he’s swinging, and swing he did. PJ hit his hardest shot of the year with a fence bomb shot off RCF light pole! Guess he had to show up big brother Donald who could barely get it to the warning track. This would close the door with a bang as time ran out with Scott Lawrence only seeing one pitch.

Padres WIN 14 – 8

Padres of Game 1

Ryan Prim “PJ” – 2/4, single, first career Shalom Fence Bomb, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored.

Hap Burden – 2/2, single, double, SAC, 1 RBI, 1 run scored. Mr. Clean as he forgot his jersey and flexed on us with his cold gear tight long sleeve shirt!

Joey Welter – 3/3, single, 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored

Game 2 vs Flying Squirrels

Coming off a great win against the Rubber Ducks the Padres had to stay focused and keep the momentum going. And boy did they keep it going. Getting to swing first the Pads put up 4 runs, coming off doubles by Donald Prim, Joey Welter, Hap Burden, and a single by Ronny Mendoza. They followed up the first with a 2nd inning 5 run burst all with 2 outs. This shows how hard the Padres fight and never give up even with 2 outs. Building on their lead which seemed very tough for the Flying Squirrels to come back from. But they showed a ton of fight down 13-3 bottom of the 6th and down to their last AB. They strung hits together and put up 7 runs until Brooke Prim ended the rally with a highlight reel play for the year with a full out diving stop, throwing out Robbie Franklin from her knees. This incredible much needed play killed the rally and help vault the Padres to win 13-10 and secure a playoff spot!

Padres of Game 2

Scott Lawrence – 2/3, single, triple, BB, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored. Another great pitching effort backed by his great defense!

Hap Burden – 2/3, 2 doubles, 2 RBI. A couple of incredible catches, one sliding on his knees but still keeping his Mr. Clean status!

Ronny Mendoza – 3/4, single, 2 doubles on a injured hamstring, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored.

Omar Gonzalez – 3/3, 3 line shot singles, 1 run scored. Only made one out of the day!
