Game 1

SC – 20

Pads - 2

Coming into this match-up on field 3 the Storm Chasers and the Padres came in as the 2 teams looking to secure the 1 seed in the Baum division as they had gone back and forth all season taking switching first place back and forth. The Strom Chasers of course looked at the weather report and with the wind blowing in they made a huge defensive shift that threw the Padres off. After putting up a 5 spot in the top of the first thanks to a 3 run jack by Luke with Peasey and Brum on and a clutch 2 run double by Zimm, they knew they would have to hold the Padres electric offense. With 1 run in, 1 out and Scott Lawrence on first Joey Welter stepped up and rocketed a shot I am sure he thought would get down, but Peasey got up with the little hops he has left and snagged the ball while then gunning it to first to double up the commish. This killed what looked to be like a momentum building inning putting the score at 5-1 after 1. Both teams went quiet with great defense and solid pitching holding both teams scoreless through the next 2 innings. Then the top of the 4th came and being dead in the middle of the lineup the Storm Chasers decided it was time to bring the Storm and put up 12 runs in the inning while holding the Padres to 1 run. That put things away with a run rule after 5 with the Storm Chasers making a statement that we are a team to be reckoned with. We know if we see the Padres again in the post season, things will not go the same, but we are confident we can play with them any Sunday for sure after this morning. Great hitting all up and down the lineup with solid defense all around for this convincing win, go Storm Chasers!!!

Offensive highlights for the game (though all hit great in this game!):

Luke Morgan 4-4 with a 1 Double, 1 HR and 5 RBI phenomenal play in RCF to hold the Padres at bay

Asher Feltman 2-2 with 1 BB and 1 RBI

Mitch Zimmerman – 3-3 with a double and 5 RBI

Ron Roberts 1-1 with 2 BB’s with great speed around the bases

Game 2

SC – 17

FS’s– 16

We talked about it before the game saying we could not have a let down game and waste what we did in game 1 by losing game 2, but it looked like that was going to happen for most of the game. The Flying Squirrels came out bombing the ball with what I believe was 4 HR’s in the top of the first playing on field 1 with the wind blowing out to left to put up 5 runs. The Storm Chasers put up 3 in the bottom of the first thanks to a 3 run jack by Matt Hyson, but stranded 2 runners after that when Croce hit the fence 3 feet short of being a 2 run jack. The next 3 innings featured unusual strike zone control by Hauf mixed with more HR’s by the Squirrels. The only reason the Storm Chasers got out of the 2nd inning holding the Squirrels to 1 run was thanks to a nearly unassisted heads-up triple play by Brumley. At the end of 4 it was 16-9 and not looking good for the good guys. However, they held the Squirrels to 0 in the top of the 5th inning and looked at the middle of the lineup to pick them up again. It wasn’t looking good after Hauf and Chappy both flied out to start the inning off with 2 outs, but that Storm was a brewing again and the team didn’t quit with the next 8 batters spreading around singles, doubles and triples to bring the Storm Chasers back within 1 with Peasey on 3rd and Brumley up to bat. Well, since you have already seen the score, I assume you know what happened then when Brumley hit the ball that walked off the game with no doubt (that ball was in the median of the road!) Storm Chasers show true grit and a never say die mentality that this skipper loves to see, I couldn’t be prouder! I will say I don’t think I have experienced a bigger celebration in Shalom after a game and it really has this team convinced, we are ready to make a run with the way we are playing right now. GO SC!!!

Offensive highlights for the game:

Brumley 3-3 with a SAC, 1 2B, 1 HR and 3 RBI with that HR being a walkoff after that 8 run rally in the 5th, turning a nearly unassisted triple play and coming into pitch to get the W! Huge game for Brum!

Nick Croce 3-3 with 1 double and 1 RBI

Zimmerman – 3-3 again with 3 singles and 1 RBI

Tony 3-3 scoring twice and being the true Final Boss!

Impact Players of the Week:

Luke Morgan – 7-7 a double, 3 HR and 9RBI on the day playing excellent D in RCF, SS and LF

Nick Croce – 4-5 with a double, a SAC and 2 RBI

Mitchell Zimmerman – 6-6 a double and 6 RBI killing the RF slapper all day
