Trash Pandas rebound with a split

Facing another early morning start and continuing the trend of sketchy weather, the Trash Pandas took the field with 11 trying to get back in the win column visiting division foe Dlott's Dragons

The heavy grey cloud cover quickly turned to a light drizzle and throwing the ball became an adventure.  It was a pitcher's duel early, and we led this one 3-2 after 2 innings and 8-6 when the third was over.  But the Dragons held us to nothing in the fourth frame then had one of their patented big innings, scoring 7 to blow it open.  We couldn't claw back, falling 13-10 in a winnable game.

Chenz remained perfect for the season going 3-3 in this one, scoring 3 times and adding to his slugging percentage with a big bomb.  Kaminski wasn't feeling his best but went 2-2 with 2 RBI, a double and a big walk.  Glosier continued his hot hitting going 2-3 with a triple and 2 RBI.  DBone was out of his mind going 3-3 with 2 doubles.  I won't mention any names, but the top of the order let the team down in this one : /

Next up, Banta's Blue Rocks  Pease's Storm Chasers. With both teams on a losing streak and needing a win badly, this was destined to be another nail biter.  The Trash Pandas came to play, holding the Chasers to nada then batting around and plating 8 in the bottom of the first.  Chenz hit his second HR of the day in his first AB--a 3 run jimmy jack--extending his hitting streak to 14-14! Glosier doubled again, and Duane Henson came up big with a 3 RBI base clearing clutch double.  All was right with the world!

The inclement weather persisted, making it just wet enough to have problems.  The TP bats went cold in the second and third, but captain Pease's squad couldn't get much going either, and we led 8-1 after the third inning.  The Chasers tightened things up a bit in the top of the fourth, scoring 5 and getting to within 2 before we put up 2 more in the bottom half on some very patient ABs. Our 10-6 lead held until the last inning of regulation when the Chasers took a brief lead 11-10 on some clutch hitting and aggressive, youthful running.  Needing something good to happen for us with time expired, Mike Glosier stepped up and swatted a Banta pitch onto Stacy Road.  Unfortunately nobody was on, so we were tied and heading to 1 pitch extras.

Nobody wanted to score--or swing--in the first inning of 1 pitch and the score remained knotted up at 11-11.  The Chasers were a little timid in the top half of the eighth, still 1 pitch ball, going silently giving up 2 backwards Ks.  With the heart of the Trash Panda order up, and needing just 1 run to win, we reeled off consecutive  singles by Randy, Chenz and Kaminski to set up a DBone showdown with wily vet Jon Banta

Trying to keep Bone from walking it off with a hard hit ball anywhere, JB aimed for the front outside corner of the mat and came up just a couple of inches short.  A clutch RBI walk-off walk!  Kudos to both teams for a really great, close game.

Proficient Pandas:

Dustin Bone en fuego, 5-6 with 2 doubles and 2 walks including the steely game winner.

Chenz Terhune 5-8 with 2 HRs, 5 RBI and 4 runs scored.

Mike Glosier 5-8 hitting for the cycle on the day, including the clutch HR to get us to extra innings.

Tim Kaminski 2-2 in the first game with a walk, not feeling his best but toughing it out for his team!

Robert Garcia 3-5 with 2 walks, great ABs.

Chris Licurse 3-4 with 2 big RBI in the second game.
