Game 1: Pirates – 5 vs. Iron Pigs – 2

With the wind blowing in for two teams that have very strong pitching and defense, it was to nobody’s surprise that this game turned out to be a low scoring affair.

The Pirates were up 4-0 after the first inning and never really looked back.  Both John Burke and Kevin Gandy pitched phenomenal and the defense for both teams did not make any big mistakes.

Heading into the 7th and final inning, the Iron Pigs were down 5-1.  Tanner Gandy, who is finally back from his month long world tour, started the inning off with a leadoff double.  He would score on a Brian Babbitt single, but that would be all the offense the Pigs could string together in a 5-2 loss.

Pigs of the Game:

Tanner Gandy- 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored

Kevin “Papa G” Gandy- great pitching performance

Game 2: Iron Pigs – 16 vs. Locos – 14

In a game with much more favorable weather conditions and two teams that have shown the ability to light up the score board, this one being a high scoring game wasn’t exactly a shocker either.

The Iron Pigs scored a semi modest 6 runs in the first two innings which were highlighted by sac flys from Babbitt and Winsor, RBI single from co-captain Keke, RBI double from captain Ryno, and 2 RBI Babbitt double.

The 3rd inning is when the fireworks came for the Piggies.  “Papa G” Gandy got things going with a leadoff walk followed by singles from C-Bass Alford and Sean Brinkman (RBI on that one).  Things got a little dicey when the Locos recorded the second out of the inning.  But Ellis Shwarts got the 2 out rally going with a single and co-captain Keke followed his lead with a bases loaded RBI single to flip over the lineup.  Once that lineup was flipped, it was time for the fireworks.  Tanner Gandy smacked a 2 RBI double, Ryno RBI single, Babbitt 3 run fence bomb, and Winsor added a solo shot to cap off an 11 run inning.

It looked like the Pigs might run away with this one, but the Locos had other plans. Captain Jason Niswonger had 3 no doubt “ball go far” homers and Josh Forniglia added 2 of his own moon shots.

In the 5th and final inning, Tanner Gandy took the season lead over his pops with his 3rd homer of the season.  The Locos would not go down with a fight and gave these Piggies all that we could handle as they mounted some offense of their own in the bottom of the 5th, but ultimately fell a bit short.  Great game of softy-ball by both teams and the Pigs took the “dub” 16-14.

Pigs of the Game:

Tanner Gandy- 2 for 3 with a HR, double, walk, 3RBI, 4 runs scored

Ryno- 3 for 4 with 2 double, 1 single, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored

Brian Babbitt- 2 for 3 with a HR, double, sac fly, 6 RBI, 1 run scored

Ellis Shwarts- 2 for 2 with 2 singles (one of which sparked a massive 2 out rally), 1 walk, 1 run scored
