Red Sox earn 2nd Bye in Playoffs

Red Sox persevere and rally for a bye earning split

The Red Sox knew the best they could do today was earn the 2nd seed and Congratulations to the Storm for earning the 1 seed!  Game 1 was the worst Red Sox game of the year Losing in run rule fashion to  Derek Mucks' streaking Ducks, 17-2.

Game 2 had  the Red Sox hosting Larry Lachman's Royals knowing that a win would still clinch the 2 seed. After holding the Royals in the top of the 1st scoreless, POW Clint Hathcock would hit a SF for a 1-0 lead.  The Royals tied it in the 2nd and the Sox were shut out for a 1-1 tie after 2.  After keeping the Royals off the scoresheet on an inning ending  DP started by the injured pitching captain, the Sox would score 5 runs featuring a lead off hit by POW Jeremy Golden, with 1 out a BB to Greg Ritter, a 2out walk to POW Joey Welter and then a 2 run 2B by Ariel Rodriguez and a 2 run hit by Hathcock for a 5-1 lead.  The Royals responded with 5 in the top of the 4th but Justin Reed made the game saving catch with 2 outs and men on robbing Adam Schor of an extra base hit!  The Sox immediately responded in the home 4th on a leadoff hit by Justin Howard, a 1 out 3B tying the game by Mark Phares, a go ahead hit from Golden, and after a FC, a 2 out run scoring 2B from Ritter and an 8-6 lead.  After drinking liquid IV mix and ibuprofen from Reed, the Sox shut out the Royals. The Sox scored 3 in the home 5th without an out as time expired for the 11-6 win and the hit parade featured hits from  Welter, Rodriguez, Hathcock, Dan Mele and Howard!

Notables: POW  Joey Welter 2-3, 2B, 2 BBs, 2 runs, excellent 1B defense: POW Clint Hathcock 3-3, 1 run, 6 RBI, BB, SF, strong defense; POW Jeremy Golden 2-2, 1 run, 1 RBI in game 2: Greg Ritter 2B, 3 BBs; Justin Reed 3 runs, 2B, great defense; Ariel Rodriguez 3-3 game 2, 2B, 2 runs, 2 RBI; Dan Mele 2 hits; Justin Howard  3 hits; Mark Phares 2 hits 1 run, RBI, key 3B, strong 2B defense and 1 son graduation today!
