In typical fashion, the Storm waited until the last minute and made things as difficult for themselves as they could before clinching the top spot. After dropping their first game to the Pandas, the Storm finally took care of business and beat the Tacos to secure first place. Now, with the momentum they’ve built, the Storm are excited to hurry up and… wait 4 weeks to play again.

Game 1, Storm @ Trash Pandas 6-7

Sheldon Fulton started game 1 off with a leadoff triple, and scored on a Chris Cesario sac fly. Joe Calvano singled and scored off a Dennis Brumett double. Brumett, lungs working overtime, scored on a Danny Cortez single to start the game off well. The Storm didn’t score again until the top of the seventh, when Joe Calvano hit a solo shot into the wind. Brumett singled and scored on a Danny Cortez triple, while Cortez scored on a sac fly. This tied the game 6-6, but the Storm couldn’t get any more runs across, and the Pandas had no trouble scoring one run in the bottom of the seventh to end the game 6-7 for the Pandas.

Game 2, Tacos @ Storm 4-19

After not hitting very well in game 1, and having an hour off to stew in annoyance and aggravation, the Storm took out their frustration on the softballs in this game. The Tacos scored one run in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, Sheldon Fulton got things rolling with a leadoff walk, Cesario singled, and then Calvano, Brumett, Cortez, Will Ryan and Kyle Casper all got back to back base hits, bringing five runs across for the Storm in the bottom of one. The Tacos did not score in the second inning. Duane Camby smashed a leadoff double to start the second inning, Chris Cesario hit a hard line drive single, followed by back to back base hits from Matt Brumley, Joe Calvano, Dennis Brumett, and Danny Cortez. Will Ryan reached base with a fielder’s choice, Casper walked, and Matt Casey walked, finally overtaking Cesario in total walks on the season. Brandon Mendelsohn, freshly off the IR, smacked a 2-run RBI shot to round out the inning at a nice crooked 7 for the Storm. The Tacos were scoreless in the third. Fulton singled to start off the bottom of three, and scored on a Joe Calvano 2-run bomb. Brumett doubled, and reluctantly scored on a Danny Cortez single, to bring the score to 1-15. The Tacos scored 3 runs in the top of, bringing the score to 4-15.  Kyle Casper joined the Will Ryan strikeout club to start the bottom of 4, but Matt Casey and Duane Camby both singled, followed by a Sheldon Fulton walk to load the bases. Storm MVP Chris Cesario decided to end the regular season with a walk-off run-rule grand slam, and clinched a first place finish for the Storm while doing it.

IPOWs:

Joe Calvano, 6 for 6, 2 HRs, 6 RBI and 5 runs scored. Excellent SS play as always.

Dennis Brumett, 5 for 6, 2 2Bs, 2 RBI and 5 runs scored. A natural-born athlete.

Danny Cortez, 5 for 6, 3B, 5 RBI and 2 runs scored. Managed to overcome hurting himself sleeping and played a great set of games today.

Storm 2022 MVP- Chris Cesario. There are 7 Storm players that played all 26 games, and Chris was one of them, and certainly the most irreplaceable. Even though he’s played a few Sundays on very little sleep, Chris has always been the most important and most reliable member of our squad.
