On the final day of the regular season, the Royals secured the 6-seed in their division as Adriano Rodriguez turned in a masterpiece, scattering 10 hits over six innings, leading the Royals over Hauf’s Colt 45s, 7 – 4, in the opener of their twin bill on Sunday.  The victory ensured a bye and home game next Sunday in the Mini playoffs.

After a scoreless first inning, Donnie Holtmann’s RBI single put the Royals on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second.  The Colt 45s tied it in the top of the third, and it looked like it would remain tied as the Colt 45s recorded two quick outs in the bottom of the third.  However, no rally is ever dead until the third out is recorded.

Back-to-back singles by Adam Glauvitz and Adam Schor resulted in two runs as both men scored on Tony Martin’s first triple of the season.  Back-to-back bases on balls to HOF Badger Hurst and Rodriguez loaded the bases, bringing Brady Allsbrook to the plate.  In what would be his biggest clutch hit of the season, Allsbrook lined a single to right center, scoring Martin and Hurst.  6 – 2.

Rodriguez took it from there, yielding only single tallies in the fifth and sixth innings, as the Royals’ defense backed him up with inspired, and – at times – spectacular play in one of the most dominant defensive performances of the year.

In the nightcap, Rodriguez held the high-powered Casper's Red Sox lineup to five runs through three innings, and the Royals’ 5-run rally in the top of the fourth gave them a short-lived 6 – 5 lead.  However, the Sox rallied for three in the bottom of the frame, and then two in the bottom of the fifth as time expired for the 10 – 6 victory.
