Game 1

SC – 14

Cyclones – 20

With the wind blowing out pretty well on Field 4 to start the day the Cyclones came out with some pop in their bats as if they knew what to down when the wind was blowing. They came out swinging red hot bats and putting up 8 in the top of the 1st inning. The Storm Chasers same back in the bottom of the 1st scoring their first 3 batters of Peasey, M Babbs, and Ortega after a single from Peasey and back-to-back jacks from Babbs and Ortega. Mind you that was half the number of fence bombs the Storm Chasers put up in the entire spring campaign 3 batters in. Luke and Will Ryan singled and were LOB allowing an 8-3 lead after 1.

Both teams would then go scoreless in the 2nd inning only to watch the Cyclones put up a 3 spot in the top of the 3rd inning to take an 11-3 lead when the Storm Chasers failed to score in the bottom of the 3rd. The Cyclones then had another big inning in the top of the 4th inning putting up 7 runs, though they would not win the inning. The Storm Chasers put up 10 runs with 2 outs in the bottom of the 4th scoring every teammate short of 2, it was quite the impressive clutch tun to bring the game back within reach of 18-11 after 4.

Unfortunately, that was about all the runs both teams had as the teams would only combine for 3 runs over the last 2 innings and the Cyclones would take this first game of the season 20-14 with some very impressive hitting all the way up and down the lineup. After getting down big I love that this team did not give up and fought hard all the way to the end. That has a lot to do with the results of game 2!

Offensive highlights for the game:

Michael Babb – 2-3 2 HR, 5 RBI and 2RS

Wilfriedo Nieves Jr – 2-3 with a Double, 2 RBI and 1 RS

OG Omar Gonzalez – 2-3 with a Triple, 1 RBI and 1 RS

Game 2

SC – 13

Corny Dogs – 2

With the wind blowing in this was going to be a very different game on Field 1 where the power bats of the Corny Dogs never quite adjusted and the Storm Chasers thrived. M. Babb and Ortega started the scoring in the top of the 1st for the Storm Chasers with a double and a single that led to Babbs being walked in by his brother and Ortega making a super heads-up play taking home on an infield fly when the SS and P just didn’t pay attention to him drifting toward home. Storm Chasers take those 2 runs and hold the Corny Dogs scoreless in the first to get out to a 2-0 lead.

Not much scoring in the second through fourth innings other than a John Kilburn fence bomb dead into the teeth of the wind and Tony Lowery scoring on a double by M. Babbs to make it 3-1 after 4 innings. Then the Storm Chasers would turn in on in the 5th and 6th innings plating 8 of the 12 Storm Chasers including another fence bomb riding the wind to right by M Babbs with 2 Peasey and Junior on base to start to put this one away. The Corny Dogs would put up 1 more run over those innings and the Chasers would put up 2 more in the final inning to make it 13-2 and gain the well-earned/much needed split to not fall too far behind the 3 undefeated teams in their division!

This was a day of starting slow but finishing strong. Putting up 27 runs speaks to the ability this team has to light up the scoreboard and the defense in game 2 showed some strong capabilities there too. This will be a fun season and I am excited to be a part of this group of guys to play with on Sunday! LET’S GO STORM CHASERS!!!
