Sea Wolves – 12 vs. Mariners – 9

John Hauf’s Mariners have been a bit of an enigma so far this season.  While they had the lowest run total in the league going into the day, they had managed a .500 record.

It became apparent to us very quickly that this was no fluke. The only offense we managed in the first 3 innings was in the top of the 1st on a Grayson Vick leadoff double and Richardson sac fly.  The Mariners, on the other hand, came to play putting up 7 runs highlighted by a Dustin Bone fence bomb (in which the bases were run, but whatevs we won so this Sea Wolf ain’t sipping on salty water).  Mariners up 7-1 after 3.

Pack leader Ryan Richardson pulled the team aside and spit some motivation at the team in saying “Bark bark, bark bark bark, woof woof” (translation: pull your snouts out of your tails and wake up).  This proved to be effective as the Wolves unleashed a tsunami of offense.  Vick got things going with a single, Richardson followed it up with one of his own. Nick Barr smacked a hard line drive RBI double, Tony Martin followed that up with a beautiful miss hit 2 RBI double and Jon Banta added an RBI single.  Tony Macaluso then singled and Matt Myers walked to load the bases.  Gumaro Castillo then stepped up to the plate and scorched a 2RBI line drive single.  Chris Morrow took a walk to load the bases again, and Bryan Roth added a RBI walk of his own. 8-7 Sea Wolves.

The Sea Wolves kept the offense coming in the 5th inning.  Richardson led off with a triple, Barr RBI single, Brad Earls took a walk, then Banta brought 2 home on an RBI double.  T-Mac would help us plate one more on a line drive single.  Sea Wolves were now up 12-(7 or 8).  With 2 outs and less than a minute on the clock, Hauf made a strategic move to take the out and get his team another inning.

We put up a goose egg in the 6th and Hauf’s squad managed to load the bases with 2 outs and the score 12-9 and Dustin Bone, who had hit a home run earlier, up to the plate.  Knowing Bone would likely be swinging for the fences, Coach Keke made a strategic decision of his own, sending Grayson Vick over to LF.  This proved to be effective as a hard line drive was hit in that direction that Vick ran down and made the grab to end the game. 

Dodgers – 2 vs. Sea Wolves – 12

In what was pegged to be the Shalom game of the week, Knox’s 8-1 Dodgers were set to face off against our 7-2 Water Pups. Which Wolves were going to show up…the ones from the first 3 innings of game 1, or the ones from the last 3 innings?

That answer came on the very first at bat of the game as Grayson Vick robbed leadoff man Kelly Stites with a full speed diving catch.  His son Jacob stepped up and got a little revenge with a rock solid solo fence bomb (you keep getting better and it’s awesome to see from such a good, hard working kid).  

The Sea Wolves would answer very quickly.  Grayson led off with an infield single that Richardson followed up with a no doubt fence bomb.  Barr and Earls would follow that up with singles, and T-Mart sent one home on an RBI single.  T-Mac added a single, and Matt Myers sent B-Rad Earls home on a sac fly.  Sea Wolves 4-1.

Coach Keke broke out of an embarrassing slump with a leadoff single and Morrow added a single to turn the lineup over and let the top do what they do.  A 2 RBI double from Vick, RBI triple from Richardson, and sac fly from Barr later and the Wolves were up 8-1.

3rd inning was a bit quiet. Then Coach Keke got things going in the 4th distracting pitcher Ariel Rodriguez by shaking that a$$, resulting in a 3-pitch walk.  Seeing the effectiveness of that distraction, veteran Roth showed he could do the same, causing another free pass.  In his first game in the 2nd leadoff role, Chris Morrow thrived, hitting a line drive single.  Richardson would send 2 more home on with a double and Barr added a RBI single to run the score to 12-2 Sea Wolves after 4.

Knoxy’s team would have one more chance in the top of the 5th, but the Alpha Dogs (there you go JC I finally did write it) pitching and defense remained on point the entire game as we closed this out via run rule 12-2 to complete the sweep, resulting in a 3 way log game at the top of the Irv Munn division with Anthony’s Sea Wolves, Knox’s Dodgers, and Calvano’s Renegades all tied at 8-2.
