The Cubs opened the shalom season visiting Cova’s Mets. The conditions proved to be a factor in game one and both teams found themselves in a pitchers duel with the wind blowing in. The Cubs struck first with rbi singles from Archie and Alba. The Mets would answer with 3 in the bottom half to make it 3-2. Both teams were scoreless in the second inning. We would add 3 runs in the third thanks to an rbi single from Ryan Richardson, John Alba, and Jon Kilburn. The Mets would score 2 the rest of the way and Jon Kilburn would lace a 2 run double for the final score of 7-5. John Chou hurled a fabulous game on the bump and the Cubs defense made plays when it mattered the most.
Rivalry Game Cards @ Cubs
In game two the Redbirds traveled to the Windy City to continue one of the best rivalries in sports. Garza’s team started fast with the wind at our backs as Dylan Hartley blasted a 3 run homer to dead center. The Cubs would answer with 2 of their own Richardson blasted a homer of his own then Picucci would smack a double then score on Alba’s single 3-2 cards after 1. The Cubs would add 2 in the second on rbi from Jorge Rivera and Tommy Apligian. 1 in the third on a single from Jon Kilburn. For the Cards they would add 8 more runs along the way a couple being on a Blake Jones home run. Going to the bottom of the 5th with time running out the cards were up 11 to 6. Richardson would lead off with a home run to center that almost landed in the woods, consecutive hits by Archie, Picucci, and Alba made the score 11-8. Liam Kilburn would then knock a run in on a single. Horacio Dominguez would step up and blast a double to left field to tie the game at 11 all. Going to extras the Cubs were able to hold the Cards scoreless on a great double play from Richardson in left center to Picucci at first. The Cubs would load the bases only needing 1 run to win it and with 2 outs Joe Picucci stepped to the plate and decided 4 runs was better than one when he blasted a walk off grand slam to complete the comeback! Jon Kilburn stepped up big in game two on the mound.
