Calvano's Twins were unable to find their footing in week two, dropping contests to Buhrow's Blue Jays and Casper's Red Sox. A recap:
Game 1 vs Blue Jays: Buhrow's squad erupted out of the starting gate with three runs in the top of the first and would eventually find themselves up 6-0 when the Twins stepped up to hit in the home half of the fourth inning. Joe Calvano opened the sequence with a double, and would later come around to score on an RBI single by Ronel Martinez. The Twins would juice the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but had their rally extinguished on an impressive triple play turned by the Jays infield. Needing to answer back fast, the Twins would flex their muscles in the sixth. Rookie Taylor Phillips led off the inning with a triple and would score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Drew Waggoner. Later in the sixth, Calvano added his second double of the game and Justin Howard added a single to set the stage for Dustin Bone. Needing to fire up his squad, Bone crushed his first homer of the season to pull the Twins within one. Unfortunately for Calvano's squad, the Blue Jays would add a few late insurance runs to seal the win. Final Score: Blue Jays 10, Twins 8
Game 2 vs Red Sox: After failing to score in the first inning all year, rookie sensation Taylor Phillips starts game 4 of the season with a familiar lead off single, and then actually gets brought home by a Calvano roped RBI single to put the Twins on top 1-0 in the first inning. Their first lead of the season! The game stayed close most of the way until the 5th inning, where it was all gas and no brakes for the Red Sox as Casper's squad would cruise to a win via run rule. Final Score: Red Sox 12, Twins 2.
Notable performances for the Twins in Week 2:
Joe Calvano: 4-5 with two doubles and an RBI
Karlos Rodriguez: 4-5, offensive catalyst vs the Blue Jays
Wilfredo Nieves: Two crucial hits against the Blue Jays
Tae Lee: 2-5 with a double
ROW Taylor Phillips: 4-6 with a triple and continues to be a model leadoff hitter as well as holding down RCF with stellar defense.
Calvano's Twins will take another crack at earning that elusive first win in week three when they face off with Strull's Yankees and Roth's Indians.
