In windy cold conditions the Red Sox struggled all day to score runs. In game 1 , hosting the Orioles, the Sox scored 3 on a Ben Collincini walk, Adam Schor hit and POW Jason Niswonger 3 run HR. The Orioles answered with 3 in the 2nd and took a 5 to 3 lead heading to the home 3rd. It stayed 5 to 3 when the Sox scraped home 1 run in the 4th. Daryl Drake made several nice plays but the double play he converted with runners in scoring position in the top of the 5th fueled the rally in the home 5th. Doug Wolff walked and with 2 outs, Collincini doubled in the tying run. After a Schor walk, Niswonger trippled home 2 with 2 outs for a 7 to 5 lead. The Sox held on for the 7-6 win.
The Sox lost 16-2 to the Yankees in game 2 for a split.
