Cannon Ballers Week 2 Quick Hits

The lead writer for the Cannon Ballers was a slacker last week, but I would be remiss if I didn’t provide at least a skosh of documentation for the Shalom history books as to what transpired in week 2 (I know everyone has been waiting…). The Ballers came out of the gates quick and defeated the Aguilas 13-8. The highlight of this game was a stunning over the shoulder, full speed catch by Sean ‘Pants’ Brinkman at 2B. In game two, in the wind tunnel that is field 2, the Cesario brothers and Babbitt hit 47 homers to help the Tin Caps defeat the Ballers 7-16.

CO-IPOWS

Dylan Buhrow – 5 for 5, with 5 singles, BB, Sac Fly, RBI, and 3 runs scored

Sean Brinkman – 4 for 5 with 4 singles, BB, 2 RBIs, and 1 run scored

Game 1

CANNON BALLERS - 7

Leones - 8

The Cannon Ballers got their first three batters on base, but the rally fizzled without a run scored. The Ballers finally got it going at the plate in the third inning. The fleet-footed Dylan Buhrow started the inning with an inside the park HR, followed up by a two-run dinger by Big Lee, and finished off with back-to-back doubles by Ryno and Baby J. The Leones were scrappy and came out one run ahead in the end (punctuated by a game ending single by the crusty veteran Stevie Johnson as the clock ran out) …

Dylan Buhrow – 2 for 3, HR, RBI, run scored

Lee McDonald – 1 for 2, HR, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored

Ryan Alford – 2 for 3, double, run scored

Jason Chapman – 2 for 3, 2 singles, 3 RBIs

Brian Conn – 1 for 2

Game 2

TACOS - 14

Trash Pandas - 11

The Cannon Ballers rolled into game two with a sense of urgency as they prepared to do battle with the red-hot Trash Pandas. The Ballers came out flat in their first at bat with a three up and three down, but it was a different story the next go round. Ryno led off with a walk, followed by consecutive one baggers by Baby J, super sub Jason ‘Chappy’ Chapman, and Coach Keg Dyer (RBI), then a clutch two RBI double from Brink, a big time RBI single from HOF Bull Gumaro Castillo, and capped off by a stellar AB and sac fly by Daniel Buhrow. The Ballers kept the heat on in their third at bat, as C Bass started the inning with a smoke shot single to LF, followed by a sweet line drive single from Dylan Buhrow. Cuddles then drove in C Bass with an RBI single, and then Big Lee McDonald sent one over the fence to drive in Dylan and Cuddles. As this is going on, the solid lineup for the Trash Pandas was being held in check by the stellar mound work from Big Lee. The defense played at a high level in this game as well, and came up with a key, rally killing double play late in the game. In the bottom of the fourth, Daniel Buhrow stepped into the box and came through with a huge single (the dugout, the crowd, and the Buhrow canines all went absolutely nuts), sparking a three-run inning for the Ballers that was capped off by a two RBI single by Ryno. The Ballers added a gritty insurance run in their last at bat to seal the victory.

Sean Brinkman – 2 for 3, double, 3 RBIs, run scored

Gumaro Castillo – 2 for 3, 2 RBIs

David Buhrow – 1 for 3, 2 runs scored

Lee McDonald – 1 for 2, HR, BB, 4 RBIs, run scored

Daniel Buhrow – 1 for 2, RBI, run scored

CO-IPOWS

Gumaro Castillo – 2 for 4, 2 singles, 2 RBIs, and played a solid 1B

‘Ryno’ Alford – 4 for 5, 3 singles, double, BB, 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and the usual lockdown SS play

Jason ‘Chappy’ Chapman – 5 for 6, 5 singles, 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored

Honorable mention: Brian Conn was solid at the catcher position, making two key plays on the day.
