Game 1: 8am Field 1 Corny Dogs @ Trash Pandas

In arguably the biggest rivalry game in the history of Shalom League the Trash Pandas defeated the Corny Dogs to claim “The Copper Popper” by a score of 10-6.

The Corny Dog bats struggled to wake up in the morning game, falling down big early. Carrying just a single run into the 5th inning, Matt Roth stepped up to the plate and smacked a single to give the Dogs some home. Jim Finley, Ozzie Zurita and Tommy Apligian followed suit with singles of their own, setting the table for Miguel Duron. Miggy launched his first homer of the day to get the “softball team on a stick” within striking distance. In a rivalry of this magnitude no lead is safe. The sixth inning began with Tony Macaluso, Roth and Finley loading the bases to bring the tying run up to the plate, but the ketchup fell short.

Game 2: 9:10am Field 2 Leones @ Corny Dogs

In a back and forth affair the Corny Dogs beat the Leones 12-9 on a big walk-off three run homerun from slugger Miguel Duron. The game started much like it finished with a Miggy blast, this time a two run shot, Captain Nick Barr would also score to tie the game at three. After trading zeroes in the second, the Dogs middle of the lineup gave them a lead. A single by shortstop Taylor Abrego, followed by doubles by Duron and Barr. Jake Runey battling a rib injury came through with the RBI single. Mitch Klaassen would also double in the big inning. The feisty Leones led by Superstar Reese Leonard and former Diamondback Leo Cova charged back with a six spot in the fourth inning to take back the lead. Catcher Ozzie Zurita put his speed on display with two base hits, easily beating out the throws from the weak-armed former All-Star Matt Shwarts from RCF. Pitcher Brad Parr shut the door on the Leones offense for the final two innings setting the stage for Miguel. Duron, described as “Confident. Svelte. Muscular. Handsome.” much like a pitbull hanging out of the window of a truck by Lacy Fenn deposited the second pitch he saw over the scoreboard and the Corny Dogs walk-off as winners.

Wieners of the week:
Miguel Duron 5-6 3HR, 2B
Ozzie Zurita 3-6 3R
