Game 1: Tacos – 4 vs. Iron Pigs – 3

Hello. My name is Anthony. Kendal Anthony. Them Iron Pigs showed that you can get all kinds of outs in this game.  Anyway, like I was sayin’, we hit into ground outs, fly outs, line outs, fielder’s choice outs, force outs; pretty much any kind of outs that you can think of. That’s all I have to say about that.

This first game was eerily similar to our first game a few weeks ago.  The Iron Pigs came out and won…the first inning thanks to a leadoff triple from Tommy “2 farts” Apligian and a sac fly from captain Ryno to go up 1-0.

Captain Keg Dryer came up to the plate in the 2nd inning and pulled a crafty veteran move using the elements to his advantage as he launched a fly ball directly into the sun, blinding this one outfielder, who shall remain nameless.  That ended up generating a much needed run to get the mo-mo going for the Tacos.

The Pigs bats got quiet, really quiet for the next 3 innings (see above Forrest Gump rant).  One more run was generated in the 5th inning via a Big Game James sac fly.  Heading into the bottom of the 6th and final inning, the Iron Pigs were down 4-2.  Babbitt got things going with a triple and scored via Winsor sac fly, but that was all the Piggies were able to string together in this one in a tough 4-3 loss.

Oh wait we have Booger McFarland chiming in from the sidelines, Booger? “Well you see, 3 runs in a 6 inning softball game is not a very high number.  And when that happens, the opposing team will usually score more than that, which means they win the ball game. Back to you, Kendal.”

Game 2: Iron Pigs – 20 vs. Rubber Ducks – 7

This game, for no particular reason, the Iron Pigs decided to go for a little walk.  We walked to first base. And then when we got there, we though maybe we’d walk to second base.  And when we got there, we thought maybe we’d walk to third base.  And we figured, since we walked this far, maybe we’d just walk all the way to home plate.

I’m not sure if Coach Muck drank a little too much Johnny Walker last night, binge watched Walker Texas Ranger, and/or jammed out to the Pantera song “Walk” (just kidding Muck I love you boo boo).  The Iron Pigs exploded with a 10 run 1st inning in this one, fueled by 11 walks with a Ryno triple, Ryno Double, and Alicia Shwarts single mixed in there.

But the Rubber Ducks came to play today, scoring 6 runs in the first 3 innings while holding the Iron Pigs to a goose egg.  With the game very much in reach at 10-6 Iron pigs heading into the 4th inning, a little PTSD set in from the previous game.  We had to generate some offense, and generate offense we did.

Captain Ryno got things going with a leadoff double, then Brian Babbitt stepped up to the plate and blasted a nice fence bomb. Joshy “Game Balls” Winsor added a double and “Papa G” Kevin Gandy added an RBI single as well.

Heading into the 6th and final inning, the Pigs were up 14-6.  With a little help from some free passes given away by the Ducks, we were able to extend the lead to 20-6 and end up closing it out with a 20-7 victory. That’s all I have to say about that.

Looks like Booger McFarland has some more wisdom coming from the sidelines, Booger? “Well you see, 16 walks in a softball game is a lot of walks.  And when that happens, you get a lot of base runners, which generally means there will be a lot of runs scored.  And scoring a lot of runs usually leads to winning ball games. Back to you, Kendal.”

Pigs of the Game:

All 12 Iron Pigs.  Every single player got on base at least once, every single player trusted the batter behind them to show plate discipline by taking what the pitching/defense gave us.  And every single player stayed positive, motivated, and hustled on the bases and defensively.
